–adj.
1. known or decided beforehand. See also foregone conclusion. (Cf.foregone conclusion)
2. that has gone before; previous. a)
past participle of forego1 and forego2.
fore|gone´ness, noun.
Usage foregone. The adjective is stressed either on the first or last syllable, depending largely on the rhythm: fore´gone in foregone conclusion, but foregone´ in the conclusion was foregone. The verb, however, is always stressed on the last syllable.
